Are you afraid of getting dementia? 😰

Your answer to that might be, “Of course! Isn’t everybody?” But your fear might feel bigger. Because your mom or dad had it. Because you’re pretty sure that your memory is getting worse. Because you have plans for the future, and a progressive neurocognitive disorder isn’t on your bucket list. The fear nags at you and when someone mentions it (like me!), you feel a wave of dread and desperately hope that it doesn’t happen.

If that’s you, pull up a chair and take a deep breath: you’ve come to the right place! I’m a dementia readiness coach and life enrichment specialist. I share step-by-step guidance to reduce your fear of getting dementia and increase your chances to live a full life if you do get it.

That might feel downright impossible. That’s why I created a 3-step process called the Bridge To Dementia Readiness. Those 3 steps are to reclaim your personhood, reimagine your future, and reinvigorate your village 💓 🧠 👋

I’ve witnessed the power of these 3 steps in hundreds of people living with dementia, and I know that they can empower you too. That’s why I built them into a 6-week course called Ready To Live Fully.

The Ready To Live Fully course is a step-by-step process that will bring you from fear of getting dementia to holding your own personalized plan for living a full, connected, meaningful life if you get it.

The next 6-week course will start on Wednesday, June 25.

The cost is $450. A deposit of $150 will save your seat. There are two payment plans for the remaining cost: $150 for 2 months or $75 for 4 months.

Space is limited to 15 people so that every participant has time to share, ask questions, and receive personalized recommendations.

But if you’re like me, you want to know more before signing up!

Whether you’re one of the millions of people who will be diagnosed with dementia in the next decade or you stay “sharp as a tack”, this course can reduce your fear and increase your chances to live fully for the rest of your life. And believe it or not, it’ll actually be pretty fun! Sign up now to save your seat in this 15-person course.

You might be saying…

“I can’t imagine that I’d ever feel better about dementia!”

A past participant named Saskia can empathize with that. She said, “I was very certain of my perspective. It was so entrenched and negative.” In the end, she said, “I was not expecting my own perspective would shift so much. I’m more intentional about being in the moment and less distraught about all the losses.” You might feel the same way. And if you don’t have an improved outlook after the first few sessions, I offer a 30-day money-back guarantee.

“But what if I don’t get dementia?”

It’s completely possible that you won’t! But the preparations in Ready To Live Fully can support you through any experience of the end of life, whether that’s dementia, another diagnosis, or general aging. I’ve worked with older people with a wide variety of conditions and have witnessed how these principles can apply in many situations. It will also give you peace of mind to know that you’re prepared even if it never happens.

“I can’t afford this course! Can I still take it?”

While the rate of $75 per session compares to other end-of-life planners, I understand that every person’s situation is different. Many people in later life don’t have disposable income or rely on financial assistance. Plus, the economy is tumultuous! Payment plans are available, and I’m sometimes able to offer reduced-rate options. I also offer a 30-day money-back guarantee. To discuss your options to pay for this course, you can reach me at emersonlee@makinghappymemories.com or 360-972-6076.

“I’m not available on these dates. Is there another option?”

I’m planning to host other 6-week sessions and a 3-day option (with 2 sessions per day). If one of those options would work better for you, let me know and I’ll add you to the waitlist.

“How did you get into this work?”

The short answer is: because I needed life enrichment! In my early 20s, I was deeply depressed, undiagnosed with debilitating neurodivergence, and a college drop-out. To get through a particularly dark winter, I stayed in California to help my uncle who had dementia. Together, we shared sunny walks, silly games, and good food. Those experiences weren’t just pleasant but spirit-lifting and life-saving. We both savored nature, music, food, and laughter. That space of camaraderie while appreciating a meaningful experience became a haven for me. I sought it out by taking classes, volunteering, and working in memory care. It’s been over 12 years since those sunny days with my uncle, and since then, I’ve spent one-on-one time with more than 150 people living with dementia. I’m no longer depressed and I credit life enrichment with saving my life.

“What are your credentials, Emerson?”

Thanks for asking! I started as a one-on-one life enrichment provider in memory care where I shared many walks, dance parties, and conversations with residents. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I became trained as an end-of-life doula, Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), and Certified Montessori Dementia Care Professional (CMDCP). My trainings have taught me about life enrichment, accommodations, end-of-life planning, dementia advocacy, comfort measures, deescalation, and more.

However, my greatest teachers have been the many wonderful people living with dementia that I’ve had the honor of getting to know. In fact, my practice is in memory of 7 delightful, kind, wise women who have a special place in my heart. I’ve combined these experiences into my role as a dementia readiness coach, and now I get to work with you!
